Bouchard Applauds the MBC’s Call for Reform

Oakland County- Mike Bouchard applauds the efforts of the Michigan business community’s call for reform in state government. With the budget crisis looming, there is again fear that the state government will be forced to shutdown on September 30th. The Michigan business community (MBC) teamed up to give suggestions on how to help the state’s fiscal problems.

Bouchard said today “For years I have been calling on Lansing to end the status quo. There are many other options to keep Michigan a great place to live and do business. I have given Lansing a host of ideas similar to the ones discussed by the MBC. Sadly, they have not acted on any of them.”

“As Sheriff in Oakland County, I competitively bid for inmate food services in the jail. This stand-alone item saves Oakland County taxpayers $1.6 million every year. I suggested to the Granholm/Cherry administration that they do the same with the corrections department. It is estimated to save the state about $40 million annually. I never even received a no thank you letter.”

“It is that lack of leadership that has driven our great state into this crisis. The Michigan Business Community should be commended for speaking out and wanting action. This is something I have talked about for years and I share the MBC’s frustration. We need a government that will make structural changes and understand we must build a totally different service delivery that recognizes the economic challenges in Michigan. We must fix Lansing to get Michigan back to work.”
